Default What RPM do you cruise at on the highway?

I was riding to work today and started to wonder what RPM range most other F4i owners cruise at. Not where you think the power band is, but where you keep it when you're riding around on an urban area freeway. I keep it around 7k, seems to me like an rpm where it's not screaming loud but you're in the power band enough to quickly get out of trouble.

Whatever the speed limit is, is where my rpms ride at.

I voted 7-8k yesterday but on my way to work today I paid close attention and I'm actually usually cruising somewhere between 6-7k

I had been riding between 6-7k on my 40 mile round trip commute to work every day and after this poll decided to drop it down to 5-6k for a week to see how it is. The difference is huge. I still feel like I'm at high enough rpm to crack the throttle open to get out of trouble quickly if necessary, the bike is quite a bit quieter and my gas mileage went from 33mpg (very consistent) to 40mph (past 2 tanks). Just thought I'd share my experience with trying commuting at a different rpm.

I guess if I am cruising at normal speeds on the freeway, anywhere between 65-70 MPH, I'll be at about 6k-7k RPM (from memory), but that's only depending on which gear I am in. Usually when I'm cruising on the freeway, I'll be in 5th gear...for me, only when I'm doing 75 MPH+ will I be in 6th gear and cruising at 5k-6k RPM (again, only from memory).

I'm sure other people have their preferences

For me, if I'm at 6k I'm going 64mph. 7k = 74mph. Etc. So just depends on what the speed limit is.

6th gear when ever I am putting along. Shoot in a 30 mph zone ill drop her down to 2.5k-3k. Better gas mileage.
