I use Mobile1 Synthetic, and I'll slap a honda civic sized filter on it too.

Two wheel noob here. So you can put Rotella 5w-40 (blue container) and a civic filter on an f4i and it works as good (or better?) as recommended OEM parts? Also, is it completely necessary to use a torque wrench when putting the filter and drain plug back in (that is what the owners manual says). I have never done that with my cars, just didn't know if it was uber important with bikes. Plus, the wners manual says to replace the drain plug seal every other oil change...is that necessary as well?

Edit: Also in that article it says that you can use a filter for a Mazda V6..anyone actually do this?

I guess my main question is: Will I get better performance from a Honda OEM filter, or a cheaper Fram/K&N/Mobil filter?

don't know anything about the civic filter never done it and probably won't but to answer you question about the toque specs I just put them on snug not tight hand tight with the filter really.

hand tight filter, yes you can use a car filter, stay away from fram they are far less of a filter read the comparision on the site previously posted on this thread. You should replace the washer, same as on honda cars, but I rarely do.

Uniq, to answer your Qs, yes, no, you should, but its not necessary. As for the Mazda filter, dunno. For "performance" no matter what filter you use it will not have an effect on performance of the bike itself, it's just a matter of filtering the oil better, and being constructed of better materials. Read the link, write down the part#s for the filters, go to wal-mart find the correct filter and the Rotella (blue not white), less than $25 total.
And Hondarider you keep on paying 15 bucks for that Honda filter (or K&N), as for me, I'm quite happy with my SUPERIOR $3 filter.

Repsol and a K&N oil filter. My bike has 38,000 miles on her. 12 years old and she still hums!

I use the white jug rotella (conventional 15W40) along with a purolator filter and have no problems. I change the bike oil every 1k though also.

I run M1 synthetic and SuperTech filter, changed every 2500mi. Could easily run it longer, but I don't ride much and hey for $15/yr why not.
