What if...

What if...
Ok guys. I bought my 02 F4i with 1200 miles on it. When I bought it, they told me that the guy that they bought it from had just replaced the battery and changed the oil, so I didn't think anything of it. Now my question is this (and yes, I know it is a what if question, but it's kinda worrying me right now.) What if the oil wasn't changed at the 600 mile mark like it is supposed to be? ( I think thats what it is anyways) How much damage am I doing riding around if it has never been changed? I am definatly going to change the oil on monday, but any insight on what would happen if it has not been changedwould be great. Thanks for any responses in advance.

RE: What if...
Hey,
Me personally the first thing when i've bought a used bike is change the oil and filter. It takes away the "what if".
As for any damage due to oil breakdown you should be just fine most of the synthetic oil used these days lasts a good long time ( i dont know any accurate figures). A way to check is pull the filler cap and check the color of the oil, if its black with the consistancy of tar then your in trouble . If its brown and there is plenty of it then all should be cool, but get it changed as soon as you can.... just to ease your mind.

RE: What if...
^ What he said. I always change the oil + filter in the first couple of weeks of getting a new bike. It's relatively inexpensive and can only do your bike good. If you're in doubt, just take it easy on the engine until you have a chance to change it. Normal (as in keeping it below 6k rpm or so) riding around shouldnt' hurt it at all...but i wouldn't rev it up if you think the oil's old.
