Default What is this?

I have a ticking sound while it idles, and when i accel around 5500 or 6000 bike seems to rattle, have bad shake. Feels like something is loose but it goes away after 6000ish.

ticking is probably valve clearances if its primarily on cold starts. doesnt mean they are out of adjustment but might be worth looking into.

look into the CCT thread at the top of this page. that would explain the rattle, but not the shake.

how bad is the shake?

Its not too bad, but i can deff feel it. Seems like its under the tank.

How would i check the valves? i had a mechanic listen to it. He said they sounded a little looose. So...can i tighten them or replace them? not much of a motor person

checking them requires you take off a the valve cover, rotating the crank manually and sliding a feeler gauge under the cams.

making the clearances in spec requires taking out the cams and putting new shims under the buckets. wouldnt advise doing this unless you are somewhat mechanically inclined...

if you do decide to do this its not to terribly complicated. You might make sure you have an engine manual or knowledgeable friend to help. MAKE ABSOLUTELY sure you keep the shims in order of the valve they came off of, if you mess this up your life will be hell.
