The thing is that if my mechanic checks it he can just tell me that it needs it but what if it doesn't he can get easy money for himself you know how mechanics try to be sneaky sometimes.

He told me that he can do a full tune up and valve adjustment for $400 is that a good price?

Find a mechanic you can trust or learn how to do it yourself. There's tons of walk-throughs online.

As for the price I won't say he's ripping you off but I wouldn't pay that much.

Thats probably about average if it truly needs adjusting but for a check its too high. Checking them isnt too difficult but the first time is time consuming.

Thats the thing I don't want a mechanic to check it for me and if the valves are good he's going to tell me it needs adjusting just to get easy money.

Its an easy way of a mechanic to get easy money specially now in days with the slow economy.

So where could one find how to perform the valve adjustments on their own?

Interesting. The guy stated that in 54k there had only been one valve adjustment in that how-to.
