KEY.

Stop switch is for emergencies and does not turn off your lights and accessories. I believe the owners manual even states the key should be used.

it doesn't really matter which one first as long as you turn both off
You just don't want your lights draining your battery
I use the stop switch when the fan is still running and turn the key off once it is done.

+1. Key. Never worry about draining the battery then.

I use switch, then key.

For everyone that says key so they don't leave the lights on and drain the battery -- do you leave your key in the bike?

So you use two devices to do the same as the one the factory designed to do the job?

I guess I don't get that.

If you want the extra safety, then put the kick down with the bike in gear. That shuts off the motor, then you can use the switch to be sure it's off, then finally the key to make sure it's really off.

Seriously. Read the owners manual.

The only thing the kill switch is really good for is screwing with your buddies at a stop light.
