Default transmission problem?

my 04 f4i has been running great, just had an oil change, chain is fine, everything fine according to the shop, all is OK at 17,000.

rode last weekend and the bike was cold (about 134) and stepped it up in 2nd to 3rd and a red light came on very briefly at the bottom mid area of the instrument panel (never seen this light before at all, not mentioned at all re display), loss of power for a second and then the bike continued on. thought perhaps it was due to the fact i didn't let the bike warm up to about 150 before starting off (normally i let it warm up to about 160 or so) and that the clutch lever needed adjustment (kept loosening up all the time). took the bike in for an oil change, chain adjustment etc. yesterday.

today, that light came on again, twice very briefly but with no loss of power. was on a long ride so at that point i made sure to shift slowly and deliberately with the clutch lever totally retracted to engage the engine so the transmission would totally engage. totally slowed up shifting, that's for sure. for the remainder of the ride no red light at all.

what the heck is that light? doesn't come on when starting up the bike. the transmission works fine, chain fine, shop lubricated and set the clutch to normal tolerance and there's no abnormal wear to the clutch, transmission, lever or lines.

any ideas? thanks!

Default RE: transmission problem?

That "Red" indicator light that is coming on is a "Fuel Injection" trouble indicator light. It does come on at inital start up but should not illuminate at all while riding. Take it back to the shop and have them run a diognostic on the FI system.

it can be anything. it may be a clogged up valve or injector or anything else. most likely it can be a sensor failure somewhere. you should take it to the shop.
