Default transmission problem

so i bought a previously stunted 929 (for cheap) and fixed it back up. Before i even got a chance to ride it, i got it running and then couldnt get it back in neutral, it starts to go in but as soon as it rolls or you let off the clutch in pops into 2nd. so i try making it done the road and it stalls during take off and goes cling clang POP while moving until you pull the clutch back in, is it possible the shift fork is bent?

Sounds like there might be more then just a bent shift fork wrong in there. Hard to tell, have to tear it apart and see what you got?

Usually is a better bet to pick up a used one. Unless you are doing the work? Depends on what u need to replace. Its alot quicker to pick up a motor and swap them out in a weekend.

always investigate the cheap fixes, you never know when you might get lucky. also, I *think* i read somewhere that if you pull the oil pan you can see the shift barrel/forks. obviously this would be easier with the engine removed and upside down, but seeing may give you a better perspective of what's going on...

ok i think i got it figured out, the trans will not go lower than 3rd gear, i finally got pissed enough to try and gain speed and once i did it smoothed out and i was able to get into 4th gear and then back down to 3rd, is there a trick or a easy fix to get it down to 2nd and 1st.

well i finally got into neutral im not sure what gear it was in, b/c instead of trying to shift down i just keep yanking up on the shifter and releasing out of the clutch each time and it slid right into neutral after a few trys. now im concerned if my clutch is out of adjustment or bad, b/c it makes a hard clunk when i go from neutral to 1st or 2nd.

Sounds like a shift fork is bent really good, or the shift drum is messed up. Get a service manual. I think you can get those out with out splitting the cases.
