Touring Question, Which bags are better?

^AHAHAHA! That's awesome.
I was looking about doing a trip for a week to the dragon, from central illinois, and I was going to only have four bags and maybe a back pack. But I'm a minimalist.
Really, it's a short drive, only about 4 hours? and then however long your staying. My advice is wear whatever you can, and it's better to be hot than cold.
Anyone ever try using a backpack as a tank bag? I was looking at mine yesterday, and I saw that if I had a magnet in the bag, just like a "plate", I could just put it on the tank, and then take it off when I got off.

some one could sit on it..... but there are 2 straps that go across the passenger seat that would not be good for long rides or maybe even short ones. might be able to run them under the naner seat but i haven't tried that

I have the nelson rigg saddlebags just like usetheffours has. They're the CL1000 and I got them new for like $62 on sale. You can pack a good amount in them. I had tools, 4 sets of clothes rolled up, rain gear, seat cover, chargers, camera, etc, etc. (and they still weren't maxed out).
I also got one of those waterproof see-through magnetic map pouches for the GPS. Worked well, but hard to see in the sun.
