Tires?

Is there a recent thread where we discuss tires for the f4i?

Im in the market for new tires and am wondering what to get. Currently I have Michelin Pilot Sport's.

I just got a email today from motorcycle-superstore.com about a pilot power 2ct sale. Although i cant find the deal on their site unless i go through the email.
They can be had for $180 a set, free shipping.

I just picked up a set of Dunlop Q2 for $198. I wasn't sure which to get either so I based my choice on the reviews I saw at 2010 Street Motorcycle Tire Comparison - Motorcycle USA. I figured they would know better then I since this is only my 2nd season riding since 1993 back in the day when I had my 250 Ninja :icon_wink:

What do you have to do to get them for that price?

I have those and like them a lot. Increased my confidence in the corners almost immediately (previously had cheap Shinkos).

I checked out Michelin's propaganda on the Power Pures and I'm going on that. Reason being is they kinda neg their own product, the Pilot Power 2cts.

The MICHELIN Power Pure sees MICHELIN's acclaimed 2CT dual-compound technology break new ground by providing even more soft rubber on the shoulders. This softer compound kicks in sooner, too.
Take the example of a front tyre leaning at an angle of 36°: 27% of the contact patch is made up of soft rubber in the case of the MICHELIN Power Pure, whereas the soft compound has yet to come into contact with the road in the case of the MICHELIN Pilot Power 2CT. At the rear, the difference is more spectacular still: in the case of the MICHELIN Power Pure, the contact patch is comprised entyrely of soft rubber, compared with just 8% for the MICHELIN Pilot Power 2CT.
Of course they don't mention that if most of your travel is straight line the Power Pures will waste your money, wearing out faster in the center than on the sides. But the only time I've slipped or locked a tire in a straight line was on cold tires or being dumb. I've slipped the rear on 15 mph corners though so I'd rather have the confidence in corners and replace tires more frequently

I'm kind of baffled at how many people have power pure or pilot powers, when it seems like the people that have them don't do track days. Am I missing something? Why buy these if you dont do at least 1 or 2 track days? They wear a lot quicker than some other sport touring tires out there.

The pilot road 2's have a harder middle comound and softer edges for getting into the corners. They apparently wear a lot better too, but still are able to get a knee down if and when you want to.

Plus 1 for the Q2s. I have been running them on my F4i and FZ1 for street and track. Good compromise of wear, price and performance. I've also tried the Pilot Power 2CTs. Not bad, but a little more money and not as sticky.

I'm thinking about trying the Bridgestone 003 line, but they're about $60 more a set.
