I like the light a lot...not a big fan of the dull yellow paint, but that's just me.

The paint job looks good, bike looks good.

I'm not totally convinced 30x2, 5mm LEDs can approximate the same brightness as 2x24 watt bulbs... Each 5mm LED puts out roughly 3/4 to 1 lumen... in a tight 15-30 degree pattern, which is great if the person is right behind you, but usually it's people to the side that don't see you... so roughly 60 lumens, vs. each 24 lumen bulb puts out ~20 lumen/watt = 440 lumens, total 800.

so 800 lumens stock vs. 60 lumens led tail kits. I'm not convinced of it's effectiveness in safety. I'm a moderator on HIDPlanet if you thinking I'm pulling numbers out of thin air... I'm working on a design that makes use of LEDs like some of the new LED tail lamps that are out now... right now I have this:

4, 40 lumens each high power LEDs, only 320 lumens, still almost half of what the stock bulbs are, but the light is all going out the back in a 120* pattern... it's ok, but not nearly blinding enough to satisfy me...

I'm trying to add some of these basically stick on LEDs which are the same thing, just wire them up though, no special heatsinking necessary... they will come on just when I hit the brakes, should make a big impact...

Ocelaris, you are absolutely right that the stock light bulb produces higher output than a collection of LEDs. Also, you are correct to state that LEDs are directional and they can only be seen from a certain angle(s).
However, even those the incandescent light bulbs produce more visible light and at nearly 270+ degrees that does not mean that they will appear brighter while there are inside the red tail light lens. That dull red lens pretty much destroys the output of the bulbs. However, at this point I would honestly say that the stock tail light was more visible but it was not as clear. So; whether how bright the LEDs are compared to stock can be argued, my feeling is that if the LED tail light would have the same power consumption as the stock bulbs did than I would say that the LEDs would win hands down. Thank you for your informative reply.

Thank you Rojer.
Its a nice pipe. I painted the pipe and the headers flat black to go along with the scheme of the bike.

You should just reverse engineer the Radiantz 1.85" LED clusters from CustomDynamics.com and save yourself the trouble of re-inventing the wheel!!

That's what I've run on all my bikes in the stock housings. They're cheap and BRIGHTER HANDS DOWN than regular filament bulbs. 48 LED's are in a 1.85" diameter cluster I placed two in the taillight housing = 96 LED's [sm=badbadbad.gif]

My CBR came with that LED "integrated turn signal" piece of crap housing- what a joke.[sm=chairshot.gif]
