startup idling issue
Hi guys,
So temperatures have been pretty high... around 90F mid day here.
Here's the issue: when I start my bike up, it's sort of reluctant. Since the battery's new, the starter energetically kicks it, but then the bike sort of starts idling at 1k rpm when I've set it at 1.3k It's reluctant to rev too. This happens for like 10 seconds and there's a smell of gas from the exhaust, and then it's back to normal.
Could this be related to a mileage drop (45mpg to <33mpg) I've experienced in the last few months (while it's cold or hot outside, while I'm riding easy or hard, with good gas, new plugs, perfect tire pressure, chain well lubed etc)?
Bike doesnt overheat, worst case fan kicks in if I keep it idling.
Does this sound familiar?
Sorry for the long post and thanks

RE: startup idling issue
the revs pick up after 10 seconds when you start it and just let it set? could be oil sorting its way after sitting for a while.. does it do it EVERY time you start it? if you ride to the gas station and leave the motor off for 3-5 mins and start it back up does it do the same thing?

RE: startup idling issue
It does it every time I start it after letting it sit for a couple of hours. If its only a few minutes it's ok. This is very new, either the product of a 300mi ride or due to hot weather.
Also, today I tried quick-revving it. i.e. revving it to say 6k rpm, letting off the throttle, and revving it as the rpm fell. Earlier it used to respond right away, but now it sounds like it's choking. All this during the initial 10seconds to 15 seconds. After that it seems fine, although I havent tried very hard acceleration.
And while I'm sitting at a stop light it seems to heave just a slight bit once every couple of seconds or so, like the engine skipped a beat and caught on again... I might be imagining that though [&:]
