Default Spark plug question

Why are there threads in the coil and on top of the plug when there is no way to tigten them together? Are the coils suppose to screw on and off? Because the only way I get them in and out is to pry them. Even when out of the bike they still don't really screw together. Maybe because I stripped out the coils yanking them out.

Thats just to insure they don't come apart through vibration. They don't actually thread together.
