Default So what is with our bikes and cutting off while riding?

So, this happened to me today. I was riding and had to go around a car that I couldn't stand being behind and I ended up going like 60MPH in first gear, then I power shifted to 2nd, then 3rd gear and next thing I know, the speedometer reads "0" and I have no throttle. I pulled over, turned the bike off then on again, and it back to normal.

Any idea what caused my bike to shut off?

I haven't had any engine, electrical, or fuel related issue since I had the bike. Only, my bike was out in torrential rain for about an hour about a month ago (possibly a wet air filter as suggested by some of you on this forum).

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Unless you were driving through the rain, your air filter is not wet.

Honestly, the way you described it, it sounded like you hit the fuel switch in the process of doing whatever you did. That or you've got a loose connection somewhere that just happened to take that one and only moment to screw with you.

Not much we can help you with except for that (at least in my knowledge), without knowing more or it happening again.

I've hit my cutoff switch before and not realized it in stop and go traffic, maybe just beeing a noob. i freaked out, turned the key on and off, then realized what i did. so it does happen. But if you're sure you can rule that out, it sounds like a loose connection to the cluster or battery.

Almost all bikes are abused. It's a simple fact that young people want them and they get them. They don't do oil changes on time, they dont align the plugs or change them ever and they don't do the recommended maintenance.
The fallout of this is that most bikes will have a problem sometime down the road.

Well, I don't know what happened but the bike is still okay.

As for the fuel switch, where is it on the F4i? Mine is a 2004.

I thought it could have been because of the high RPM and speed in 1st gear, the bike got confused about the fuel/air mixture and just cut off.

I rode the bike today with no problems, so I guess it was just a single moment anomaly!

It's the big red switch on your right handlebar.
