I got a ticket last night for speeding. 86 in a 65. He asked me why I was going so fast, I said my speedometer must be off because it only said 75. I'm thinking mabye arguing that stock speedometers are off and trying to get it thrown out somehow. If I agree to pay the fine any Idea how much the ticket is gonna run me? also, traffic school? blah! (California)

Get a lawyer. I don't think having a defective speedometer is any sort of a defense.

Traffic school might be an option. It depends on CA law. There are limits to how much you can exceed the speed limit and still qualify for traffic school here in TX.

 

I would say fight it...If its your first ticket, you may get what they call PBJ (Probation Before Judgement) and you pay the ticket + court costs but don't get the points. Just a thought.

 

Haha, 86 on the freeway is not fast... I cruise at 85 consistently and I'm moving slightly faster than traffic. Good luck with the ticket

Most speedo's are off fron the factory by an average of 5-8%.

I too got a ticket for 86 in a 65 and the cop gave me a 3 point ticket. Cost me $150 too. Traffic was going 75-80. and I was around 85. The cop says that he will give people 20 over on the freeway, but I was 21 over and he has to draw the line somewhere.

He was nice about it and a biker himself, and to be honest, about 2 minutes prior I was doing about 150mph, so I decided to just shut my mouth and take my lumps and move on.

 

fast crx, yes our speedos are off from factory as well as all bikes, so are the tachs - just less % of error on them.

if you can get it proven by a mechanic or what not that the speedo is off and show that either you fixed it ie. speedohealer, the mechanic fixed it then the judge might excuse the ticket...

 

usually at higher speeds, the speedo says a faster speed than what you are actually doing. like 130 is 122...not that i would have tested that with a cop buddy on a police radar gun on route 66 last week or anything....im just saying.....

 

while i do agree, it would matter what sprocket was set up as well. when im going mine is about 7mph + when im doing 100, so if my speedo says 100 im really doing only 93. But i have + 2i think rear -1 in front for acceleration.... i think i got that right..

 

LOL my brother just got busted for 128 in a 55, riding at night without a liscense, and running from the cops. Felony evasion to be exact. Speeding ticket is going to be about $600, riding at night without a liscense about $200, felony evasion $?,???, one night in jail with Bubba--Priceless LOL

You probably won't be too bad off. My buddy just got a 73 in a 55 and it was $104 so I'd say it will be under $200. And probably a few points. I wouldn't fight it, but if you do good luck.
