Shock adjustment advise
I have a 03 and i am a bigger guy and the bike is set i think factory setting on the rear shock. I am 6'1 and 260-280 what do you think would be a good setting to start with on setting the adjustment on the rear shock? Also how do i know what the setting is at now?
Set Everything full stiff. That shock was designed for someone about 100 lbs lighter than you. Your best bet would to to visit race tech's website to see what spring rate they list for your weight and put that spring on. Also check out hyperco springs. A re valve may be needed too if you want to throw more money at it. If money is not an option, have one built for your weight and riding style. When adjusting the shock, the compression and rebound adjusters turn clockwise to stiffen. The preload adjuster is on the bottom of the spring and you need a spanner wrench from your tool kit. The adjustment cooler will have numbers of 1-6 on it, 6 being the stiffest.
The insides need built to suit you. Need re valving with aftermarket parts. Checkout all race tech has to offer to get an idea of all the parts. Unless you know what you are doing, I would send the shock off to a professional to be rebuilt to your needs.
You could try just replacing the spring and see how you like it. Just play with compression and rebound after you replace the spring. But if you want the best set up, it should be revalved. You should be ok with just the spring for street riding.
