Default running temp???

Just bought my bike yesterday, an 01 f4i and had the temp go from 180 to 230 degrees. Was wondering if this is normal or should it be staying around 185?? Thx

i think 230 is a little on the high side. ive noticed the fan comming on around 221*F (106*C for me) you could have an air bubble in the cooling system.. im guessing its hitting 230 sitting in traffic?

i cant say if thats normal operating temp, cuz mine is in celcius, when im crusing around town stop light to stop light ill run between 98-109*C.... 109c is when im sitting at a light for a while or behind a slow line of cars and have no air flow. at freeway speeds and up it will run 85-95*C so if you do the conversion from *C to *F you can see where im standing at on my 02 f4i...

My bike turns on the fan at 220 fahrenheit like clockwork. I know I get up to at least 225 in traffic. I am not sure about 230...maybe there are some smarter members that can help you.

Highest I've seen on mine was 231 in traffic, but it was really hot out too. My fan kicks on at 226, it goes up to 228-229, then back down to 218 and the fan shuts off. Been doing it the same like clockwork since new

At highway speeds it's usually always at 177-178, though when it's really hot out depending on how fast I'm going sometimes it'll go up to 190 or so

if thirdgenlxi is running those temps i would say your ok as he has 96k+miles on his bike and its still ticking! well ticking would probally be bad.. running strong should be a better term

173-185 when I'm going faster than 20mph, upto 228 in stopped traffic with 90+ degrees outside. You should be fine.
If you still suspect something, check your coolant level, whether the radiator seems to have any obvious dings/leaks and if the coolant's low then whether it's leaking from any of the pipe joints.
