replacing head
so i stripped the head and had to replace, it...the following happened an hour ago...
so i think i ****ED up my motor.
after 2 hours, i finally got camshaft sprockets to line up according to the book specs.
put EVERYTHING back together, including headers and radiator. oil, and coolant.
turn on the motor, LOOOOOUD rattling noise...thought it was cam chain, the bike was on for maybe 20-30 seconds.
take everything back off. (except the head)
camshafts + the camshaft holder have LOOOOOTS of scraches on them.
am i ****ed? what happened? what could've caused this?

no, the manual said to apply engine oil, not to the lobes, but to where the cams sit...it was already lubed so i didn't.
I have little to offer off the top of my head other than wondering what manual you have. I've got a Clymer and its been pretty good on F4i teardowns. Let me know if you need me to look through mine, as I am looking through your pair mod posts on another site right this minute.

what do you mean by "clymer"? is that a brand name?
i heard one of 2 things:
1. you did not add molydenum oil
2. you tightened them down too much
I will admit, I don't know everything about these bikes. IMO the parts on the bike have to be torqued down to foot lbs. If they are not to the exact specification you could have problems. I do know that when I put my kickstand back on, I didn't torque it down tight enough and the it rattled itself loose. So in that reference, maybe your bolts weren't set to the right specs?

and i sorta know what 9 lbs is by "feel", and this torque wrench just kept on going, so being scared of snapping a bolt in my friggin head, i threw away the new torque wrench and grabbed a 1/4 and tightened it to hand tight.
