Replacing CCTL - need top off engine?
Hi Guys,
I've read everything I can find about replacing the cam Chain tensioner Lifter (or just CCT to some). I also have a Honda workshop manual, and a haynes manual. My bike's a CBR600F2 2002 model.
In the haynes manual, it says to take the cam cover off, and the timing cover off, find top dead Center, THEN replace the CCTL.
In the Honda workshop manual, it has a section on removing the camshafts, and in this it tells you to take the cam cover off, and the timing cover off, find top dead Center, THEN remove the CCTL, etc, etc.
BUT, in a later section titled Cam Chain tensioner Lifter, in the Removal section, there's no mention of finding TDC, or removing the cam cover.
Could the Haynes manual havecopied and pasted the wrong section?
So I'm confused. A honda mechanic told me that I must find TDC, and be really careful to ensure that the cam chain doesn't jump teeth, and check the timing afterwards carefully, yet I've heard many people talk of simply removing and replacing teh CCTL without opening the engine up.
Is there anyone who knows for definite whether I need to find TDC to do the job?
Thanks.

You said you have a CBR600F2 2002, but I am guessing you meant F4 right?

RE: Replacing CCTL - need top off engine?
I am actually just about to put in a new stock one myself and I just noticed in the manual that it says to turn the tensioner shaft fully in and secure it using the stopper tool to prevent damaging the cam chain. What do you guys think about that? I don't have this tool.

the "key" you're referring to may be neccessary to retract the shaft back into the body of the lifter. On mine i accidentally pulled out the stopper tool and the shaft shot out. I just took a small flat head screw driver and stuck it down there and turned it which pulls the shaft back up, then you just hold the shaft with your finger and put the stopper piece back in.. So... if what you are talking about is the tool to retract the shaft, then a small screw driver will do, although you shouldn't even need it.
Hope this helps.
