Default reason why such bad gas mileage?

im only gettin like 100-110 miles to a tank...i looked around on other post and ppl are saying 160+
i have had my oil changed last month..i dont know im not tearing the **** out of it either i mean yes the occasional speed up once and a while but nothing major..any ideas? suggestions would be greatly appreciated..plus with gas raising 20 cents in two weeks....its now 3.69 here. and my truck getting 12 mpg its just not to cheap to drive anymore so i take my bike as much as possible but i feel im not gettin my mpg i should be.
thanks

I feel your pain... I only get 100-110 per tank too...if you figure it out let me know! haha from what people have told me...it might be because of alot of stop and go driving? I don't see how that could make a 20-40 mpg difference though..

that just doesnt seem right a 1000 getting better gas mileage than a 600? hmm.[sm=dontgetit.gif] oh well its the price to ride i guess. anything is better than my truck ha it sure as hell isnt going to stop me from riding. [sm=gears.gif]

I get around 115 miles until my reserve comes on.. sometimes 120.. Then I go fill it up with gas. 3 gallons later I am topped off. That comes to 40 MPG. You really need to fill up the tank, reset ODO, drive until reserve, fill up tank. Take the ODO and divide by the gallons you put in..

You guys must ride pretty aggressively. I get a solid 50 mpg, hitting 140-150 miles when the reserve light comes on.

Sorry, but no advice on the bad mileage. Maybe don't pull the throttle so much on acceleration, and ride in 6th gear more.

unless your bike is bone stock your not going to get as good of gas mileage. Everything you add is for HP and thus results in less fuel economy.

Riding fast and higher rpms kills your mpg. Ride like a P*ssy below 5,000 rpms and shift like an old lady. You'll get better mpg. Why did you buy your bike? To ride and have fun or get good gas mileage? Live life a little and spend a couple of extra bucks.

One MAJOR difference is the terrain / style of riding. On highway trips in 5th or 6th gear I get almost exactly 50mpg. However, my normal 3 mile commute is basically up and down a mountain and I get about 32mpg when I'm crusing around town (rarely over 3rd gear, usually in 2nd)
