Default Rear brake master Cylinder

Please refer to the microfiche page here:

I'm trying to free up the push rod (#11) so I can attach my new rearsets, but I can't get the nut (#22) free. It looks like a standard thread. Can someone tell me if I need to remove something else to free the U-bolt (the one that looks like #6 but is really #16)? Or possibly if I'm turning it the wrong way?

Or, I actually don't need to remove it in order to remove the U-bolt...what's holding it in place? I already got #24 and #15 out.

When you say "came apart" did you still have to unthread the pin? I haven't fooled with this in awhile, but it's still a bugger. Somehow it seems to be frozen on mine. I recall adjusting my rear brake before and it wasn't an issue.

Every couple of days I am able to work on this problem.

When I take a wrench to #22, the push rod (#26) wants to thread out of the master cylinder. Can I take it completely out without getting fluid all over the place?

For whatever reason, mine is different in that it #16 is threaded all the way to the end of the rod. It seems that #22 and #16 are married together and I have been unable to separate them.

Anyone???

The threaded rod seems to be flat on one side. That nut and #16 isn't budging. In trying to remove the rod...that isn't working either. Do I have some kinda rogue rear MC. I don't care how this thing comes off anymore. I just need it OFF. Can anyone help me by going step/step with removal...perhaps remove their lever????

I don't see how this is stumping me. I even cut my friggin hand trying to get this damn thing off.

When i changed mine, the u-bolt(#6/16) was connected to the whole peg assembly, and i twisted the peg assembly and got the ubolt out, freeing up the 24 nut. It's possible to free the 24 nut without removing the ubolt also it might take some muscle but it's possible. You might be moving it the wrong way or just not hard enough.

When I removed the cotter pin (24) and the bolt (15), I thought the u-bolt (16) would just fall out. It hasn't. I've twisted the nut (22) every which way using many things as an anchor. Only thing that's moving is the rod (26) and the nut at the top near the rubber boot.

How do you propose I remove the nut w/o removing the u-bolt???
The cut hand is after applying lots of torque and having the screwdriver slip that was holding the u-bolt in place.
