Default RAttling question?

Hi,

I've been experencing some rattling issue on my 2001 CBR 600 f4i.

Between 4-6000rpm the bike starts to rattle a little. It only happens then and stops when it gets below or goes above the 6000rpm.

Any suggestions. is it something to be worried about.

do a search for cctl or cam chain tensioner
it's actually the cctl (cct lifter assembly) that's getting noisy due to changes in tolerances from wear and tear. it's NOT your cam chain slapping around...as many believe.
while it'll drive you nuts, it won't kill your bike, but you should replace it or mod the existing cctl.

Sounds like the lifter tensioner. The stock ones are notoriuos for going out and making an annoying rattle. Sounds worse than it is. You can get an aftermarket one that is adjustable rather than spring loaded and be done with it. I put one on my 02 F4i and haven't had to adjust it since.

do a search...both of you...the stock one is NOT going OUT! it's not going anywhere! the spring inside is still providing sufficient tension on the cam chain. it's just getting noisey due to increases in the tolerance at the tip and the shaft of the cctl.

yea , if you do a search you will see people have instructions on how to do the operation in your garage/street corner. never did it myself and i cant say it looked simple

fitted mine myself was a bit tricky cause bolts behind r/h frame spar is tight youll need quarter drive ratchet and wobbly extentions to do job

I think I might be having the same problem. However, my rattling is REALLY noticeable and at all parts of the rev range. It sounds like their is a rattling sound coming from where the CCT is, but it is not faint like most people have described. So, can a shotty Cam Chain Tension Lifter cause a really loud rattling? Also, is there a way to tell that my CCT is shot and the actual problem after I remove it?

Thanks

do this...remove the cctl and study how it works...how it can only get tighter and tighter by design...and not back out...then check the pin that holds the tip to the shaft...and notice the play there...then check the shaft and cctl body...and notice the play there (may or may not be there). those are the areas that get worn beyond tolerance and start making the nasty noise.

all it does is make noise...but still putting tension on the cam chain. that's why you don't ever hear of noisy cctl in the F4i causing catastrophic failures, because it's the cctl itself making noise, and NOT the cam chain slapping around from lack of tension. the cctl is NOT failing as so many say. the only time i've heard of cctls causing failures was in an RC-51 where the cctl was flawed from the factory. on the F4i, a manual one as replaced and tighten too much...causing failure.

do a search on this...and learn for yourself and research for yourself. there's just too many bs posts about cctl's going on.
