rattle under gas tank between 4.5k/5k
Last week my bike started getting a rattle that's coming from under the gas tank. I would rather not take the bike apart only to find out that I will have to order engine parts and keep my bike apart until I get them or put it back together just to be able to ride until I get the parts to fix it. It there a common problem that I should look out for, cam tensioners, airbox bolts, that might cause this rattle. Thanks
PS The rattle started only a 5k and now it's getting louder and happening during a wider RPM band. Soon it will be from 3K to 5.5k and loud enough for peolpe to notice the rattle when I take off or drive pass them.

Or you could spend about an hour of your time and do it yourself. There is a link for a how-to on a 2000 f4 in one of the threads down the page. It is the same for the f4i except that I didnt remove the tank, just prop it up. Kind of a pain in the *** to do but $150 for labor is alot of money.

so im probably experiencing one of his bikes symptoms
So i just got this 01 minty red and black f4i for $3,500 and im starting to see why it was so cheap some one please explain to me whats up with my bike and tell me if its bad? the bike rattles between 3-4000 rpms cause the timming belt tensioner is worn and loose or sumthin, and the bike heats up fast at a stand still with out the fan kicking on i checked the connections there good, could i be a fuse? or temp sensor? or bad fan motor?
and does anyone elses f4i make that rattling sound? the guy i bought it from said he had the dealership take it apart and check it out said there was nothing wrong and it should affect the bikes performance?...i dont know bout u but a rattling that happens consistently between 3-4000 rpms doesnt sound like everything is good, supposobly even they ran a compression test and thats all good to?
please send sum knowlege and advice im freakin out over the overheating and rattling?

My turn... Your problem is the CCTL (cam chain tensioner lifter). You need to replace it. You can replace it with a Manual tensioner (APE manual tensoner) which will last forever but occasionally you will have to adjust it yourself. Pretty much all F4i make this "rattleing" noise. And as for your bike heating up quickly at stand still.... think about it, there is no airflow across the radiator to cool it, it is going to heat up quickly... the fan doesn't turn on until 224F so as long as you don't go above 230F don't worry.
BTW... there are so many posts about both of these topics, do a search next time.
