hi guys, i just bought an f4i.
what are the tell-tale signs that my ECU is dying? What will it affect?
So can i just purchase a 2nd one off ebay then bolt on?

Depends. What type of issues are you having? What year is your F4i? Chances are your having a different issue but i've been known to be wrong before.
The ECU is really easy to install...not a bolt on type deal.Just has 2 wire harnesses that you detach and then hook up the new ECU.

 

mine is a 2001 production bike. It has done 73,000km. Quite alot but I trust HONDA on engine reliabilty.
My bike died on me today....could it be the ECU at fault? it's now at my regular mechanic. Hope it's not the ECU as it's gonne cost a bomb[&:]

 

There's a million factors that could play a role in why your bike died.

 

oh ya just wanna know if the f4i non-sports version's ECU will be compatible with the sports version?

 

Not sure. Let us know the diagnosis.Bikes die alot because of the regulator but chances are you would have noticed some signs before it died. Like slip said there are tons of things that would cause the bike to die but interested to know what caused this problem.

 

my diagnosis is out.
charging coil's fried. batt is flat. I changed the rectifier as well.

mech tells me ECU could be dying as there was an FI error also...damned....now i really have to start bidding one off ebay.
sports and non sports version share the same ECU?
