okay guys so im going to be building a bike trolly/rolling platform device this weekend to make it easier to move my incomplete bike around the garage, and also giving the wife the possibility of parking the car in the garage haah...

so my question is this anyone have suggests on what wheels i should use? im going to be making this things outa 2x4's and a buddy at work said to stay away from the super cheap wheels... which i would do anyway, but does anyone have a good suggestion as to what do get from say menards or a place like that?

im pretty excited about this because this mean i can roll it outside to take some better pics of the stuff ive done.

also i plan on making it wide enought to fit stands on so once the bike is done I can still use it...

any thoughts on height? Im currently thinking keep it short so that if it ever falls over it doesnt fall far <--- heaven forbid... but it would also be nice to not have to be on the ground working on it all the time

 

I have an idea... :P Instead of building a cart for your parts how about you put your parts on it? Then you can just roll it out of the way

but if you insist- Harbor freight (yes harbor freight) has a great selection of swivel casters.

 

I have a pile of old lawnmower wheels at my parents house that would work pretty well. my dad always takes them off before he gets rid of the old mower, maybe goto home depot and get some heavy duty swivel wheels for the front...

 

lol because i dont have the parts to make it roll haha...

and regardless if it did roll... the space I wanna put it in you couldnt "roll" it into anyway... its parallel with the front wall of my garage and a like little cove haha.. so this will be functional and needed even when the bikes together

i'd say to use four of the swivel type caster wheels and make a frame like this []. maybe locking (to keep the wheels from rolling on you) would be helpful too.

not being sure what all tools you have to work with i can't really tell you the bes way to put it all together.

i plan on making a 2x8 frame out of 2x4's with several cross cars from side to side... puting 6 wheels on it... 3 on each side, and then putting a piece of 2x8 ply wood or something on top of it... all drilled together with screws....

as for tools my grandpa is a carpenter, and my dad build his house so I access to pretty much any tool you can imagine lol

but yes locking wheels are def a good plan

 

i would think 2x7 would be more than sufficient as these bikes aren't all that long.

 

lol ill have to see... all i know is 2x4's come in 8' sections and the plywood i want is 2'x8' so if i want to minimize cutting the extra foot wouldnt hurt... plus like i said i eventually wanna put stands on it and put the bike on the stands and bike stands typically got a bit farther out than the front and rear wheel

 

you got a point on minimizing cutting.

for some reason i wasn't thinking about stands with the bike.
