Default Progressive Insurance Hike

Insurance nearly doubled from my quote this week to my quote last week. I haven't gotten any tickets or violations ever! For a 19 year old quoted for an 02 f4i they want 579 a year?!? What happen? I was ready to spent about 700 and get a 500 dollar deductible incase it gets stolen. Is this likely just a temporary spike for spring or something?

Then a friend just quoted it for him and he got the regular price. I have no tickets besides a non moving ticket for expired tags on my car in December of 07'. Could something have gone wrong here?

Insurance can be a tricky issue. One thing they take into consideration is your age. Thanks to all the inexperienced drivers in the past causes the rates to be higher for you. Another thing they check now is your credit history, they use that against you for generating your premiums. If you have mulitple policies, car, house, boat insurance you can get a discount on your policy. Progressive has been know to progressively increase. Go get quotes from other agencies. If you can get the bike insured under your parents and you be secondary driver, you can get a lower rate.I am 34 no accidents no tickets, with two auto policies and home owners policy and I pay 220 a year full coverage with a 500 dollar deductible. With Farm Bureau in Nebraska. Also the state you live in will determine your rates too.

I believe progressive rates you based on your bike's style (sport, cruiser, etc). Since you're on a sport, you're going to pay more. Check with state farm. I switched to them, for no other reason than cost savings (Prog took very good care of me), and I saved a load of money b/c they rate on displacement. There are advantages to having 600cc's.

Im just annoyed because the quote I've been getting for the past 2 months was a good 400 dollars less than what it is now, nothing has changed over the past two months. They want 579 for the minimum, bunch of garbage. Can my friend insure me on his policy along with my bike if my bike is in my name?

No. If your name is on the title it has to be you. If you put his name on the title you can do that. That is the policy in Nebraska. But I wouldn't want to put anyones name on my title, if he got pissed, he could sell the bike from under you and you can't do anything about it.
