Preventing Bike Theft
I am a student at Purdue and I really want to bring my bike down here but I'm a little concerned for it's safety. I live in an apartment close to campus but off the road in such a way that people that don't live in the apartments don't drive back here and also can't even see the vehicles back here from the road. There are also a few other bikes here that park next to each other so mine would not be sitting alone. This being said I still worry about either someone stealing it. I'm also a little worried about people damaging it. There have been some pretty big parties here already and some of my neighbors and their friends can't control themselves. What do you guys think? Is this much of a risk? And if so what can I do to help eliminate this risk?

Trust me it's really sucked not having my bike I really miss riding it especially with all the other bikes around here. I'll look into a wheel lock because I don't think there is anything that I can chain it to. I'm going to get a cover but I'm not sure how I'm going to work it because I need to have a parking pass showing somehow.

Ohio State is F4i heaven. There's TONS around, not to mention the squids that come with the other bikes. But I don't think I'll bring my bike down this year, I just won't have enough time to get it rideable.
Check the parking garages on campus, or, if you're in an apartment, just chain it up, and throw a cover on it, and pray. I'd only bring mine down if I felt 100% safe. It's just not worth it.

i go to syracuse and didnt bring my bike for the same reason. I wasnt so much worried about theft since i could lock it or whatever but during parties like you said since theres always ones in the parking lot where i live before it gets too cold and i was afraid someone would knock it over or some dumbass would try sitting on it. i forgot i lived across from a parking garage though so unfortunately ill probably have to wait till spring to see my baby again unless its a mild winter. So definately look into a garage or some other safe...or safer....spot for it.

Y'all can try an alarm
I often park my bike out in front of my apartment door on the sidewalk. And this sidewalk is a high traffic area because there's a subway entrance at the end of the block. When I got my F4i, it seemed the shiny blue was irresistible to people. But it also has an alarm that screams its head off if you do more than run a finger across her. When it did, I came out within minutes. Often carrying something metallic and dangerous
My F4i has gotten the reputation of being something not to touch.

This! I've used a 2x6, and that was scary. If you ride it a lot, don't bother bringing it inside though. It'll be a headache more than anything. But look into parking garages for sure.
If you need help though, I have a friend that's down there the second semester, and I'd know he'd help ya out with moving it if you needed.
