Default Pretty Sure I'm Close to overheating

Read through some of the older posts about running temps, and idling temperatures in the city.

On a hot day I've noticed riding in the city temps are around 113-115 then can get up close to 117 even hitting briefly 120.

I am thinking bad thermostat? And a coolant flush/change is needed?

If this doesn't solve it, probably going for a fan switch mod, but that would only mask the issue.

Anyones input on the temps being high and the thermostat and fluid change idea would be great.

Thanks.

Do you mean 213-215 and 220?? The fan kicks on somewhere between 220-230 i believe. If you bike is in the one hundreds then you have no fear of overheating.

From Online Conversions...

113 C = 235 F
120 C = 248 F

That does seem high. I know there is a coolant out there called ENGINE ICE, I have used it in a dirt bike and worked great. It is really expensive but works. When I have to change mine out on my F4I i am going to use the engine ice.

Thats too hot. The manual says the temp light and FI lights will come on at 250F and then you need to turn the bike off. Thermostats fail open... it would take longer to warm up, but wouldn't effect overheating. So your fan is working? I would definitely change and flush the coolant.

I need to change mine. Cruising around at 35 to 40 mph im in the 190s and it quickly jumps up to the 215 to 220 range. Its no fun when its mid 80s outside with gear on sitting on a fireball

Okay thanks, sounds like it isn't a failed thermostat.

Yes the fan is coming on, I can hear it and see the temp drop.

I watched it today riding to work this morning. On the highway driving sits about 84 C. In the city driving about 94-95 C.

Sitting stopped in traffic it got up to 115 C and the fan was on.

I'll try flushing the coolant and doing a change friday.

drain the coolant, run some distilled water and vinegar through it until it warms up, then drain that. That will help clean out the system and make it "veddy naice" for the new stuff. Engine ice is where its at

Nothing conducts heat better then strait water, so water wetter should give better results then engine ice or coolant. I live in phx and I run around 200-210 on the freeway and hit 220 at the stoplight almost instantly. Once the fan kicks on I don't go above 225.

Well did the coolant flush, changed in new coolant as well, still got the same heating issues. Fan is coming on no problems there.

Not sure where to look next other than dropping it off at the shop.
