New rider. Thinking about buying a used CBR 600F4i (or F4), between 1999-2004. I have been shopping online. Can someone please explain to me why the rear seat on an F4i can either be double or one uni-seat. Every dealer that I spoke to claims all F4i's have the single seat and the CBR RR's have the double seats. Depending on the year that seems partially true (seems like all F4i's from 2004 and later - single seat, and F4i's from 2000-2003 - vary between single and double seats). My wife doesn't want to ride on the small hard passenger seat that comes on the racing bike (RR), which is why I am looking at F4s. It also seems like the single seat on the F4 has a slightly lowered riding position than the RR's double racing seat position. But if F4's have the racing style seats, I'm in trouble.

Do the dealers not know what they are talking about?

 

before 01 the bike was carbuerated and called the f4 which had the single "banana" (thank you gwen steffani for the speeling of that" then from 01 on it was the f4i which is injected. the 01-03 had the double seats while 04 to current went back to the seat style on the f4. hopes this helps you!

 

That does help. Another quick question - is the riding position on the 01-03 double seats any better than the RR double seat position for the same model year? The dealers suggest that the single banana seat on the new (04-06) F4i models gives a better riding position (slightly lowered/less forward leaning over handle bars) than the 04-06 RR models.

Because if the double seat on the F4i's is no more comfortable than the RRs in 01-03, I might as well skip those model years. Thanks for your help.

 

Yes, the F4i ergo's more relaxed than the RR no matter what year single or double.

For the long haul the single seat is more comfortable, and definitly better for your passenger. Nothing beats the looks of the two seater, and it is definitly better for the track.

A Corbin seat helps the two seater even more. It raises you up a little and cradles your butt. Not as good for the twisties, but I got used to it and have no problems putting a knee down.

 

The dealers are retarded if they think that all the F4i's are banana seats. If a dealer would have told me that, I would have laughed at him and told him to get me someone that knows what they are talking about.

Wasup Dog. I owned a 91 600 F2 with the (yes, thanks again Gwen) when I bouught an 03 954 and had the choice every morning. Even though the new beast was calling, if I knew I'd be taking a sea anchor (see: BIZZLE) , BANANA BABY! F4I seat is much thinner than F4, and with the one piece seat you get a nice cozy tuck with less lower back lurch from your copilot/ heater. Hope that helps and keep 'er rubber side down.

I like the banana on my 1999 F4. It looks cooler than the one piece seats of today for some reason. I think it is because in '99 the F4 was still Honda's top of the line 600 (the RR's didnt come in until 2003, i think) the seat design, while one piece, still looks sporty. I dont mind the look by myself and passengers say that it is very confortable as well.

The newer F4i's are obviously fuel injected, but if you dont mind carbs you can save a LOT of money and get a 1999-2000 F4. It will be fast enough for you, confortable enough for her. I also like knowing that in 1999 my bike was Hondas best 600, so you know they didnt skimp on anything. I feel as if nowadays since they have the F4i's and the RR's that the F4i is treated like the second ugly child.
