RE: People who got f4i as first bike
I say go for it. It is my first bike and I love it. However, I've been riding since April, so take it for what it is worth. I bought mine used and I would suggest the same. You can find a used one with low miles for $4000-$5000. The most important thing before you buy any bike is to take the MSF and get your license first.
Also, if you are worried about dropping it, take the fairings off and ride it like that for a while. Once you get some road time under your belt, slap 'em back on and you're good to go.

I have to admit, I bought a new F4i this year (two months ago), and had my wife back into me a week ago. If I had a used F4i, it would be less painful!. However, I still do not think it is too much bike for a "smart" beginner. Buy a used bike. The one thing I was concerned about was laying a new bike over...it definitely happened!
