Default Oil on tire

What is the best way to get oil off my rear tire? I cracked my stator cover and managed to get oil on the tire. :-(

How long was the oil on your tire? I would think if it wasn't on there long enough to really soak in you could clean it off with some sort of degreaser like Simple Green and it will be OK. Obviously want to take it easy until the oil is completely gone. If in doubt, get a new tire.

Some soap or detergent and water should do. I found out the hard way because when I was cleaning my chain with WD-40, I got some on my rear tire. I panicked. But after using some spray solution of some cheap detergent and water, scrubbing the back tire with scrub brush and did a thorough rinsing off of the tire, all of the WD-40 came off.

Simple and it really works. Just remember though, using a scrub brush really helps and should make it really easy. I used a tire/wheel scrubber that I got from Walmart. When you are all done, it shouldn't have any slipperiness to it.

Good idea. You can even use a wire brush. It will make things a little easier and your tire should stick a little better when you're done.

Absolutely.

I don't know for sure, but I think this a similar method for when people prepare brand-new non-slick style tires for track days?

They scrub the tires to get better traction.

liquid dish soap is best, its made to clean grease from cooking. When my stator cover broke and put all 4qt of oil on the ground I just put kitty litter down and rolled the bike threw it a few times then rode easy for a bit.
