Everything honda to many pros and cons to oil so ill just keep it factory you know. Maybe later on ill look at the whol synthetic vs regular but to me and some of the stuff i have seen there is very mild change in performance or riding with newer bikes.

I used HONDA full synthetic 10w-40, with a HONDA filter.

To make a long story short---(keep in mind I've been changing the oil in my trucks for years):

THIS WAS A PAIN IN THE ***!!! When changing your oil DON'T MESS AROUND WITH ALL THE DIFFERENTTOOLS USEDTO REMOVE YOUR FILTER!!! I ended up making THREE trips down to PEPBOYS to "make it easier" to remove the filter. Screw all those ideas.

Simply take off side fairings and from the non-driveside- use channel locks to remove the filter.

My filter was a huge pain when I was trying to get it loose-when I was trying to make it easy with "oil filter removal tools". The fairings only take 5 minutes to remove and install. Next time i'm going to loo into the K&N filter with the 3/8 adapter in it for "EASY" removal.

let me guess...it was a new bike right?
honda filters don't take your average pepboys oil filter wrenches...the ones you get from the dealer or cycle gear fit perfectly though.

that first filter is a biatch in any vehicle, from cars to bikes...because it's torque'd on by a factory gorilla.

OK, here is the deal. Purolator PL14610 filter, better than Honda's and half the price. Shell Rotella T Synthetic, for diesel 5/40 top oil, low $$.

Here is the research to back it up.

Heres the recomendation from the service manual

As you can see in warmer climates you can use something other then 10w40. Since i live in MA i will be using MX4T 10w40 with Mobil 1 filter for the bike. Stay away from car only oil.
You want something with molybidium or wtv its called. no friction aditive oil.

And i would not use 5W40

Default Castrol 10w-40 Full Synthetic, Mobil M-110 Oil Filter

I just switched from castrol blend to castrol syntec (full synthetic) yesterday. I use a mobil one M-110 oil filter. You can also use a M-108 as well. I wanted to use a purolator because they have shown to have more filter media that than the mobils and they are cheaper but I forgot the part #. The F4i service manual says not to use "energy conserving" oil, which is what mobil-1 is at the auto parts stores, that's why I grabbed the castrol.
