Default Oil Change

Yes I did search guys. I can't seem to find a thread on doing an oil change. I do my own changes to my car but am clueless when it comes to bikes. So my question is, What type of oil do I use? Where can I get the filter? Is the filter right behind the front tire? Do I need to remove fairings to drain it? Is the bolt the one right on the bottom of the bike?

Thanks.

oil change on a bike is real, real easy. youtube it. i know there are a few step-by-step videos on there. i didn't remove my fairings on my f4i...filter is right behind the front tire, bolt is on the bottom of the bike. as far as the oil goes, you can go expensive or not. i just went honda 4-stroke 10w-40 (cold weather use 10w-30). heard alot about using synthetic for any mileage over 15,000. really your choice there.

haha well if you did it well, there will be no oil on the headers. BTW, that site is really helpful for those that need it:

Oh, and don't expect that spark plugs write up to come in any time soon. It's been "coming soon" FOREVER! =]

Go to wal-mart, get yourself some Shell Rotella T in the blue jug (NOT the white jug) and the filter for a Civic. It'll cost ya a lil over 20 bucks for everything.

Nice write up on that site. +1 for putting foil over the pipes.

Here is another one: http://www.bossturbo.com/cbr/howto_oilchange.shtml

Also, another question. As I know the standard capacity is 3.75 qt of oil. It's recommended to use 3.25, let the engine idle for 2-3 minutes and add another 0.5 qt.
So, is this correct?

The Supertech filter is ST7317. Its about $2.50-$3.00

And the Rotella-T (synthetic - blue jug) is about $19

Also, Keep in mind the ST filter is bigger than the OEM one, so your oil capacity is a little bit more. Just make sure to check your oil level after running the bike for a few minutes.

You can use one of these; stick the tube in the filler hole:

...or you can loosen the drain plug (messy).

That looks like it is designed to extract all the oil without having to pull the drain plug. Am I correct?

That's kind of neat but I would still pull the drain plug after I got all the oil out with the nifty oil suckeroo. Just to be safe. It'd be less messy that way for sure.
