some people remove their lowers but i dont....you dont HAVE to, you'll just get a bit of oil on the bottom of them which isnt even noticable unless you're wheeling, lol. the oil filter is easy to see............"if it were a snake, it would'a bit'cha!" lol

the drain plug....a bit harder to explain but you dont have to remove the lowers for that either. its kinda hiding behind the kickstand area.

by the way, how many miles since your last oil change....?

top pic is the oil filter. just stand infront of your bike and look between your two lower fairings. you really cant miss it.

the second is your drain plug. get down and look behind your kickstand/shifter. you should see a bolt facing the ground down there.

do a search for oil. you'll get different opinions from EVERYONE but just make sure its synthetic motorcycle oil....whatever you do choose. but click the search button and type in "oil" and choose "topics" and search in the "F4i" section.

i personally have been using Motul 10w-40. i HAVE used AMSOIL too....i've not noticed any difference between the two.

i also prefer to use the K&N oil filter b/c it has a nut on the end to get it off easier....you just use a socket.

as for how MUCH oil, might wanna check your manual if you have one...b/c im not 100% certain. i know its JUST under 4qts. if you get 4qts you should have enough left in that 4th one to buy only 3qts for the next few oil changes.....thats atleast how it is for me.

The 2001 uses 3.5 quarts. Don't overfill it or you will leak out your gaskets and burn it in the engine.
