Default Oil???????

I just got my first bike which is a 2002 f4i and I drained the oil, but when I put the new oil in, it still didn't get up to the line on the meter. I know its supposed to be between the 2 lines but its nowhere, should I let it run to get the oil circulating or what? I put close to 3.8 quarts in it. Any Suggestions?

Naturalhte. I'm just gessing here, but I bet your trying to read the oil level while the bike is on the kick stand. Get yourself a rear stand, or have a friend hold the bike up-right as though you where sitting on it. Otherwise all the oil sits on the left side of the crankcase and dosen't show in the oil window. Your bike requires 3.5 U.S qt/3.3 L

This is a very popular topic. I suggest you go to search at the top and read the many threads on the subject, then you can decide for yourself

Ideally the oil level should be between the two lines. I keep it kinda close to the top line. If it is slightly above the top line it is ok as long as you see some air above the oil in the window. It is important though, that there isn't too much oil in the system as it will not circulate poperly leading to things like overheating, fouled plugs......yada yada..
hope this helps.
