Default RE: oil

that is the oil you are supposed to use, just make sure it is motorcycle oil, regular oils dont have the high viscosity rating

Using 'regular' i.e. car oils on bikes can give issues with the wet clutch on an f4i. Especially those with friction modifying additives etc. Best to spend a little extra and get a normal 10w40 bike oil. If you meant 'regular' as in 'not synthetic' then it's only a matter of lifetime: synthetic oils last longer.

car 10/40 is fine to use. people can rant all they want...10/40 does not have friction modifiers that will cause clutch slippage. 10/40 is not an energy conserving oil so it's fine to use for motorcycles. if you do decide to use car 10/40, make sure you change it out at 3k, afterwhich the oil rating is no longer 40 weight, but lighter due to break down. i know many many bikes that use car 10/40 and haven't had any issues after 60K.

i personally use anything i can get my hands on...from mobile 1 15/50 to valvoline 10/40 to all types of motorcycle oils. i have not had any oil consumption problems, engine problems, etc...

know the truth, research for the truth...and you'll save money in the long run. people say it's cheap insurance to go with moto oil/synthetic, blah blah blah...well...money is money, you save 1 cent, you save 10 cents or 100 dollars, you still save!
