Default o2 sensor...hey guys...you will not believe this.

I posted a thread about this before. I wrote that the o2 sensor was making my pants smell like gas and I didnt like it. So, I plugged up the hole with a nut. No more smell, right? Well, now I believe that my gas mileage has went down some. Any suggestions?

How was the O2 sensor making your pants smell like gas, unless the hole where the O2 sensor is supposed to be didnt have one? If this is the case then you plugged the hole with a bolt? If thats the case then the plugging of the hole has not effected your mileage. The fact you had gas comming out of the hole would suggest you have a overly rich condition. You should check the FPR first. If its good then how many miles are on the bike? Could have tight intake valves which will cause a richer mix. so will a dirty air filter.

The hole was on the midpipe. Yes, I did put a bolt and nut over the hole. And I didnt have gas coming out of it, it was the smell of gas. The fumes is what was coming out. 10, 000 miles on bike and what is the FPR?

An O2 sensor eliminator isn't gonna do anything except turn off your FI light, and I don't even recall you ever saying that was your problem.
If you want to get rid of the rich condition, put a working O2 sensor back in. Your gas mileage didn't decrease by plugging the hole with a bolt.

IIRC correctly, you bought a Bootleg pipe or something that was pre-drilled for an O2 sensor, but your bike didn't come equipped with one. I know my 06 came with it (and I am in Washington State) so I am assuming a least all the 06's did. Unless yours was a CA model, it probably did not have an O2 sensor stock.

You aren't complaining of your FI light being on, so I will further assume your bike did not come stock with an 02.

Nothing you did should have caused so much of a restriction that it would affect your mileage. Unless you used some massive bolt. I doubt that.

Have you done any other mods? After market air filter? PC III? Different sprockets? Or are you just riding harder?

FPR is fuel pressure regulator. Very common issue. You can check it by lifting the fuel tank, and pulling the small rubber hose off of it. if it is wet or even pouring fuel out the small outlet, it is bad.

jim, you hit everything on the money. I did buy the bootleg pipe with a o2 sensor hole but my bike is not equipped with the o2 sensor. Correct. I just though maybe since I plugged the hole up, that it decreased my gas mileage. I just didnt want my pants to smell like gas fumes all the time when I got off the bike. I might need to clean the air filter or lift the tank up just like someone said earlier.

Mods, well I went down a tooth in the front, no power commander or special air filter. I do ride hard sometimes but, hell, 90 miles when the reserve light comes on. Give me a break or is this about right?

Definately sounds like a faulty FPR.
