Default #?@&!!! (now with damage pics!)

well, it finally happened... my first accident. I was coming around a sharp left-hand turn going about 45 (mistake #1) yesterday... I was on the inside of my lane for one reason or another (mistake #2), and when I went around the turn, I ended up going too wide. I pretty much knew I wasn't going to make the turn, so I straightened up the bike so I could brake and went off the road (which still beats lowsiding the bike on asphalt)... apparently, there was a ditch on the side of the road, which I'm pretty sure is what actually threw me off the bike. I really don't completely remember what happened; all I remember is making a conscious descision to straighten up the bike and brake, then I remember hitting the ground, and I remember standing up and taking my helmet (which actually doesn't have much damage, but is getting replaced regardless) off. Anyway, I managed to escape with an injured shoulder, a headache, an injured hip, and an injured leg... nothing too serious, so I'd say I'm pretty lucky. The bike actually made it out okay, too... I need a new front upper fairing, a new left-side fairing, new mirrors, and turn signals. The bike still runs, and was in good enough shape to get me home safely (nothing's bent or anything; all the damage seems to have been cosmetic).

Well, I guess this is as good an excuse as any to get flush-mounts and a custom paint job, right?

Glad to hear you're ok. Take it a little easier out there. It's bad enough the cagers aren't looking for us.

Glad to hear you're okay...I'd like an excuse for the custom paint myself, just hoping its not the same as yours.

thanks for the concern, guys... now, the "I can't believe that actually happened" mentality is starting to wear off and I'm starting to think about what I'm going to have to do fix the damage. I lost a front turn signal, as well as a rear lens. Both mirrors are gone (one was ripped completely off, the others' glass shattered), I need a new left fairing, front upper, and I just noticed about 10 minutes ago while I was inspecting the bike again that my tail is cracked right above the brake light. Also, my windscreen is cracked in two places. What I'm thinking is just replace the mirrors/signals and ride the bike till winter. Then (since the winters in PA aren't too bike-friendly), I'll replace the plastics, windscreen, etc. and get everything painted (I have two garages it can be painted in, both heated).

What I'm thinking so far:
-flush mounts
-fender eliminator (if anybody has a brand they'd recommend, I'd love to hear it. And I'm not doing a custom job... I'm not that great with fabrication)
-carbon fiber mirrors (does anybody else find it odd that I can get a pair of real cf mirrors for the same price as stock replacements?)
-carbon fiber case guards (my left one is scratched to hell, so I might as well replace them both with carbon fiber)
-new double-bubble windscreen (probably a sportech colored chrome one)
-new paint job... I'm thinking something along the lines of orange or yellow (no crazy murals or graphics or anything). I want something that looks good with black, since I'll have a lot of carbon on the bike. Any suggestions?

And, yes, I'm looking through the "lets see your bike" thread for ideas

Oh, yeah.. I almost forgot... I should have pics of the bike either tonight or tomorrow (since I know that's what everyone wants to see lol)...

yeah, the damage isn't terrible (when I first realized what happened (if you've never been knocked out, trust me.. it's hard to figure out what's happened when you wake up), I thought the bike was trashed lol)... it actually looks a lot better in the photos than it does in real life, but the damage isn't too terribly bad... the fairings are pretty scratched up (and cracked), but those can wait to be replaced... I'm just getting signals and mirrors until winter... that's when I'm going to replace the plastics, fender elimination, and paint job.

*edit: actually, now that I think about it, I might actually be able to repair the plastics... anybody know how to do plastic repair? lol

^ yeah, it could've been... I'm definitely glad it wasn't. But I think I'm going to at least try to fix the cracks in my fairings before I buy new ones... if I give up, I'll give you a pm.. just so you know, it'll probably be like december or so before I even start with the plastic repair.
