Normal Charge Time
Whats a normal charge time for a low battery with the Battery Tender plus? I was out on the bike yesterday stopped at the store and when I came back the bike wouldnt start. I got it jumped right away and it ran fine all the way home. I was only on it maybe 10 mintues both ways. I put the tender on it last night and after less than maybe two hours it says its fully charged. That seems to me to be a little short. I just bought the bike so I don't know how hold the battery is.
I did something similar on my old bike. I had a fairly new battery and I left the key on, by accident, for about 4-5 hours and it drained the battery. I put it on the battery tender and it was fully charged in about the same amount of time, 2 hrs. I drove it and the bike was fine. Just to be on the safe side, I left it on the tender over night, though.
Battery "tenders" should just trickle at most 1.5 amps to a battery to prevent it from discharging naturally over time. Tenders are generally better for maintaining batteries over long periods of time. But depending on how dead your battery is it might take quite a few hours to charge a battery with a tender.
Battery chargers will shove through 10+ amps to actually charge the battery in a short period of time. With a charger you should be good to go within a half hour or so, but only use a charger if you plan to ride the bike for a few hours after. Repeated quick charges with a charger isn't good for a battery. It's better to sustain the charging process at lower amps for a long period of time.
