for it took make a slight gridning, teeth clanking noise going from 1st to 2nd? Unless I shift really early it lmost always makes a clanking noise going into 2nd. No problems shifting, just not as smooth as all the other gears.

hmmm...it's hard for me to imagine what you're saying.
second should slip right in with no issues.
adjust your cable and see if it still does it.
how many miles on the bike?

FiremanE4 guy, I dont think you are hitting the shifter hard enough. I know exactly what you are saying and you will grind them gears if you dont shift right. So; from about 8k rmps and up, hit the shifter very hard to go into 2nd. Its not like that for the other gears; just second.

I have close to 17000 miles on my bike now. I will try shifting harder as I am usually pretty easy on it. I just was wondering if the shift forks could be bent slightly from some previous owner powershifiting wheelies.

shift forks = shift paddle? if so, then i think its gonna be very difficult to kick the paddle until it bends. most likely case is that it bends from the bike being dropped.

Mine does it sometimes, seems like the 1-2 shift is long and requires alot more hand/toe speed and better timing than the others. When I ride easy, say two up, it is worse.
