Well, first keep in mind that having him pay for the bike and making an insurance claim would be unethical, foolish, and may be felonious.
Second, provided there's no frame damage, the bike is salvageable for less than $5,000.
Keep your emotions in check when making the decision. A bike that's been crashed by someone else likely won't be the same for the owner for emotional reasons, even if all the parts are true and 100% functional. It's the human factor that needs consideration.
Weight the monetary costsagainst thedamage to thefriendship as well and you will have made a decision the both of you can live with.

Take the money and buy this bike:

I wish I had 5 grand for a new ride. Good luck on whatever you decide!

UPDATE...
k guys... since the friend I let use my bike was still a beginner... he told he was willing to buy the bike for $5000 since he knows how good i take care of it and all the mods I added onto it. He's still young and his dad was gonna buy it for him but after the dad heard about what happened... he refused to get him a bike now. too bad for him huh?
the dad agreed to pay for all my repairs though, so I guess that's good enough. I already ordered my parts from ebay, and they should be coming in within 2 weeks or so. Spent about $800 for the forks with lower/upper triples, radiator, and both front and back rims which are powdercoated black (i was gonna powdercoat my rims black anyway).
I'm still debating whether I can install these myself. I know I can do the radiator/wheels myself. But I can't exactly use a wheel stand to change the forks. My local shop which I go to to buy all my stuff told me they'll install everything such as radiator, wheels, forks and do all the preperations and stuff like oil, fork seals, coolant, etc etc all for $150 and they'll pick up the bike from my house and drop it back off if i can't pick it up. That seems pretty cheap. I called another shop and they were charging me 6 hours of labor which is about $475 and they'll pick it up from my house for $80.
I think I'll try install what I can and pay them to do the forks maybe.
Also getting a new paint job!!! will post pics as soon as the fairings are done.

Save the $150. My first crash is how I learned to do those things myself. If you're going to pay anyone, pay for the knowledge not the work. Get someone who knows how, offer them the $150 and then watch them like a hawk and ask questions. When they're done they will feel like they should have charged more.
