Default New to the scene, need a helmet

I just turned 18 and purchased a new2006 F4i Candy blue/Black but have to wait till next wensday to pick it up, im excited to start riding on the streets,( i grew up on a fourwheeler and dirtbike.) Its time for a new helmet before i get the bike and suggestions? dealer told me safety wise there mostly the same but the money pays for the comfort and he recomended a HJC but they were limited in selection so im looking around on the internet. Thanks

If you do a search on this forum, you'll find tons of info because lots of people have the same questions as you do. Before I recommend a helmet, I have to know a few things like what your price range for a helmet is. If you don't have a limit, then I'd suggest you grab a Shark RSR2 helmet. Very nice and very protective. Also, I'd recommend you get some frame sliders to protect that pretty bike of yours. You won't regret it. Welcome to the forum!

I love Scorpion helmets, best bang for the buck around imo
If I didn't go through helmets so fast, I'd be using Shoei or Arai though, they are easily the best helmets out there
I'd check out the new Scorpion EXO-1000, I haven't tried it yet but its supposed to be a great helmet

+1 on scorpion helmets. Definitely best bang for buck. I want the exo1000, but I'm waiting to read some reviews on it.

IMO, icon gear isn't all that great. Some people like them and some don't. I'm one of those that don't. I think their jackets, helmets, and footwear suck. Just my opinion though. The only thing I can recommend of icon is their knee/shin guard. Great if you want to wear jeans.

If you go HJC get a CL-SP or AC-12 for the anti-fog coating on the inside of the shield among other things.
Whatever helmet brand you choose buy it from www.HelmetCity.com for the cheapest prices and free 2 day shipping.

I'd personally avoid an HJC, noisy compared to others I've used. I have a low end Shoei, the TR-Z, very comfortable and fairly quiet helmet. Have'nt tried the Scorpion but I can't imagine that many people being wrong about them. You can also find some of the discontinued EX700 models for 139.95 shipped, hard to beat if you ask me.

My Shoei Rf-1000 camber was $348 at 'the helmet shop' in daytona. It is a little above your price range, but mine has the graphics, without them thay are probably a few dollars less. What I like about it is the quick change visor. Good luck on your choice.
