Default My CBR600F1 IT RUNNNNSSSSSS.

Hi guys.

So as some of you know, I was about to buy a friends crashed CBR600F 2001 thats been sat for 2 years outside.

Went there yesterday with a battery pack and some fresh fuel and after 1 or 2 cycles of the engine it fired into life. Sounded amazing too! Anyway, I have 2 videos of it, both very short.

Question 1: It idles at 3k when started, is this normal?
Question 2: Whats the running temperature of a CBR?

Didn't get the camera out in time, but this is the bike after it was started about 20 seconds prior..

This video is about 5 minutes after the bike had been started, Idle had crept back down to normal..

Answer 1. Cold idle might be that high. When it warms up, it should be around 12 to 1500. If it stays high, check your coolant level.

Answer 2. 180 to 230. Lower end with good air flow and in the 200s in traffic. With the fan on and no air, it should never get above 230.

It's normal for the bike to idle that high when it is cold. If you don't like it that high it's possible to adjust it but I'd stick with what Honda engineers figured

Neither of your YouTube vids are playing either(at least not for me), but yeah, what 74demon said, 180 to 230 is what mine typically runs at. Also, I think 3k at cold idle is about right. Never really paid much attention on startup, but mine sounds pretty close to 3k. Honestly, I wouldnt sweat it as long as it settles at about 1200 when warm.

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah I assumed it would be an auto choke or something. I should have researched on google for the answer really. Anyway, I pick the bike up on the 10th. SO excited!
