MSF - List some things learned there

RE: MSF - List some things learned there
Keep your knees in (I had a problem with this doing the U-turns on the first day), keep your chin up, keep your back straight - just like momma said, no slouching. It's a bit trickey for us taller guys to keep our back straight while on the bike but I've found a pretty good comprimise when I ride. Another thing they talked about at the course is to vary your RPM's and speed while on long trips - if you stay constant you can actaully fall asleep while riding - that wouldn't be too fun!
Some argue whether or not you should always keep a finger or two on the brake - I find that to be so uncomfortable that I will focus on how uncomfortable it is and will not focus as much on the road, so when I ride I am very alert, but I like to have all 4 fingers on my throttle, and then put all 4 on the brake when I need to grab it.
All in all it was a GREAT course and I agree with those who say it should be mandatory in order to get a license. If you live in canada - come to the states for a weekend and take the course, it will be worth it.

I have a buddy that is an instructor for the MSF course and I will try to get him over here to give some of the basics or lowdown on the course. He has been giving me some of the parts but he keeos telling me that the classroom instruction is the meat of the class. I keep trying to get info out of him... until I squeeze him dry mwhahaha!

when i took the course, they didnt mention the words "target fixation", but they did talk about looking where you want to go and you will go there. they could of spent some more time on avoidance too, since they didnt really tell us to not stare at the back of a car as youre breaking. on of the things that i kept getting yelled at was that i wasnt putting all my fingers on the brake/clutch, i would just use two or three. the instructor threatened to duct-tape my finger together so i would use all four lol.
the biggest thing i learned was clutch-control, especially while doing u-turns. i couldnt get it down in first and almost dropped the bike a few times, but when i was in second and used the clutch to control my speed instead of the throttle, i made it through the u-turn box perfectly
