More cct questions
I know there a bunch of threads about changing the cct. But I can't find out how to tell if it is too tight. I just put an APE manual tensioner on today and the rattling stopped, but I think I can hear the chain when its running. When I replaced mine I found that a previous owner had already installed an APE cct. So I replaced it anyway and set my new one about 1/8 of an inch closer to the chain. The sound is gone like I said but I'm just paranoid it is too tight.

You must keep adjusting the CCT as the miles go by to keep it where it should be. If you replaced a APE CCT with a APE CCT you wasted 50 dollars. If it was too loud than it needed adjustment. That is why they are called manual. There should be a write up somewhere on here for how to set the proper tenson.

I know, I bought the bike about a year ago and never tore it down that far, so I just thought the stock one was still on because the bike only has about 12000 miles. So yea I was upset when I saw it on there, but the old one was leaking oil. So I'm pretty sure I still needed the gasket. But I just wanted to know if there was a way to tell if it is too tight. Like a wierd sound or something. And I did a search just couldnt find any thing on that.

There is a procedure to it when you install it. just follow what it says as far as listening to the engine as you tighten or loosen it. When it sounds like the directions say is right than you are good. just keep checkin it and periodically tighten it down as you add on the miles.
I dont know how it could have leaked. If it was the gasket i would bet the dude diddnt scrape or clean the old gasket off enough and that was why it leaked. who knows though.
