Default Maintenance Schedule

Hey guys, I was wondering how often you get your oil changed? I would go off of the manual but I heard a guy at a dealership saying that I should change it every 1500 to 2000 miles.

Well, if its brand new, I would wait til about 4000 miles. Then after 3000 do regular changes. Bikes aren't like cars for oil changes. Be sure you use motorcycle oil and not regular car oil, that will really ruin your engine.

thats on the high side. it still gets dirty no matter what oil u use. as for as syn oi is concerned its better to use a lesser oil and chain it more often.than spend big bucks and let it have more time in the motor. oil dosent really wear out so much it gets dirty and the aditives only last about 2000 miles.so spend less and change more.

Varying opinions are plenty on this but...Change it according to the manual and the manufacturer specs. And I use "car oil" in my bike about every 2500 miles (once a year) and have had no issues. As long as it meets the specs described in the manual you will be fine.

chris...
a guy i used to ride with uses dino oil on his zx10r...
he has like in excess of 40K now i think...each time he gets it tested by blackstone labs...
he rides super hard and based on the results, the recommended that he switch oil every 2800 miles instead of 3500-4000 as that's the threshold when dino oil starts to break down. just an FYI that's all...but you're swapping at 2500 which is perfect.
