95, I suggest you use the procedure in the service manual. By following it, it gives the best chance for everthing lining up.

Just crank them down, Your shocks store 2500 +/- psi of pressure so they are strong. If you give them nuts your not going to mess anything up i cranked the **** out of mine and nothing went wrong. I just put on 400 miles today whtout a hitch so go for it just make sure you have a micromiter to mesure the gaps otherwise the bike will pull one way or the other if they are not even. <<<NICK>>>

well, there's no procedure for raising the forks so i took the easiest way out i could think of. i just loosened the bottom pinch bolts (they were pretty tight), then loosened the top pinch bolts enough for the forks to slide up. one side slide up 3/4" and the other about 7/8". i tighened the upper pinch bolt on the tube one that slide up 3/4" and had to take a small block of wood and tap the other fork leg down to equal 3/4". then i tightened that upper pinch bolt and proceeded to the lower pinch bolts. i couldn't get the appropriate torque wrench to fit so i could only manage to tighten the lower pinch bolts to 25 ft/lbs. btw, everybody check thier clip-on pinch bolts. mine were tight as hell. i thought they were stripped. thats one of the few things the shop monkeys do when assembling new bikes. mine had to have been tightened with an air gun.

My bad. When you said pinch bolts I imagined the bottom pinch bolts on the forks. I guess you meant the bottom triple tree. To get my torque wrench to fit, I ended up buying a set of drive socket adapters so I could get the spec right. My logic: Didn't want to put a kink in the fork leg from over-torque.

Tight's tight, too tight's broken.
Just go over it with wrench and make sure it's tight. 29ft-lbs is not alot and don't worry about squeezing the fork tubes too tight. You'll strip out the threads in the triples before you crush the fork tube....................not that I've done itI'm just assuming that's what will happen.
