Question LOUD "tapping/grinding" sound from engine

I'm familiar with car engines, but I haven't had much motorcycle engine experience. So please bare with me.

I have an 06 F4i with about 9,000 miles on it. Until last night, I have never had any problems with the bike.
After installing my two brothers M2 exhaust and db windshield, I headed to the motorcycle meet up place-which is about 25 miles from my house-interstate drive the whole way.
The bike ran great (AND SOUNDED GREAT with the new exhaust!) I cruised around 75mph most of the way, and jumped up to around 85 or so a few times just to hear the difference in exhaust sound.. Anyway, when I reached my exit, I got off of the interstate and began slowing down to stop at the red light, I noticed a strange "ticking" sound coming from the right side of engine. It was barely noticeable, but it wasn't a sound I had heard before on the bike. Well, the spot where we all meet up was only a few miles from there, so I decided I would just wait until I got to there to see where/or what was causing the sound. However, the further I rode, the worse the sound got. It got louder and louder, and soon, the engine wouldn't idle at red lights anymore. It would die. The sound seemed to almost completely disappear when I would keep the engine revved around 3k+ whether sitting at a light, or driving.
I pulled over at the first open gas station I came to, and stopped the engine to inspect to see if I could find any obvious signs of a problem. I wasn't able to see any sort of problem. Only the loud knocking/tapping noise. The oil and coolant level was fine. The temperature remained normal. The only obvious problem was the horrible sound. The bike would no longer idle on it's own either. As soon as I would start the engine, the noise was there, and if i didn't rev the engine, it would die shortly after starting.
I couldn't find anyone available near by with a truck to haul the bike home, so I had a friend follow me home in their car. The bike ran fine all the way home. No loss of power or any other problems. Thankfully, I don't live far off the interstate exit. When I pulled into my carport, the noise was still there, and just as bad.
I've added a picture of an engine that shows where it sounds like the noise is coming from.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Here is a video of my bike making the sound.

This sounds like MASSIVE cct failure. Although they usually don't go out that quickly their normally a more progressivly gets worse thing, but there are always exceptions to that. Get that hydraulic cct changed to a manual and see if that takes the noise away. I took the liberty of marking it for you.

My only other thought which I am thinking it isn't, but is hard to diagnose without being there is that a lifter is just about to let go. But I think its your cct which is also WAY cheaper to fix than a valve job!! Shouldn't be more than about 50 to 75 bucks for the cct. If that is still to much skin to spend hit me up with a PM and I'll tell you an even cheaper way but requires a little more mechanical know-how.

Wow, I watched the video. I have never seen a bike act like that. I am also going to say the CCTL. They are like 65.

This is where I got mine.

And heres how to install it. All you need is a socket and some patience. If yours went bad as quickly as it did, it is my recommendation not to ride your bike until you get this fixed.

Thats what it sounds like to me as well. Getting ready to do mine. Mine doesnt start untill around 6k and not always there, but has slowly gotten worse. Never heard one that bad before and agree w/ stephens, sounding that bad, I wouldnt ride it anymore w/o repairing.

You guys rock. That's exactly what the problem was. Well, not exactly, but close enough. Turns out my bike already has a manual cct. And after a quick inspection, I realized that the "bolt?" had some how back itself out almost an inch and half. I tightened it up back to where the lock nut was, and it now runs perfect. THANKS!

you should PM "SiandCBR" and tell him how easy it was (woulda been) to replace it. He just paid the stealership 186 bucks to replace his. I tried to tell him!

$186, I would consider that a deal. The part alone, depending on where you get it is 65-90 bucks. I would almost pay that not to mess w/ it cause it is a b*tch, not to mention they have to warranty the work
