Default Lookin at purchasing an F4i :)

so i recently wrecked my 99 Eclipse and cased in on my insurace( i made almost $3000 more than what i paid for the car ) so right now im lookin at buyin a 01-04 f4i...i found thise one for sale here at a shop in the town i live in: http://redlinemotorsports.biz/2004_h...br_600_f4i.htm ..it needs a new front fairing, but other than that, ive checked it out and its super clean, and since i got cash money, im sure theyll cut me a deal

i dont actually have any experience on street bikes, but ive been riding dirt bikes and four wheeleres and what not since i was about 5 (im 18 now), and things with wheels kind of come naturally to me

im about 6'1" and bout 135 lbs...yes im scrawny..lol, do u guys think i would be alright on something like this?...my whole family is trying their hardest to talk me out of buying one, but i really want one

thanks

whoa... 6'1" and 135lbs... u got that right ur scrawny. I'm 5'9 and 150lbs and i'm still skinny.

try to lower the price to about $3000 or below since you need a new front end basically and you have to put time and effort into installing it yourself. Unless you're gonna get a shop to do it, then you're gonna spend time and money to get it fixed.

Physically, you should be able to handle the bike since you're tall enough to flat foot it. But it's a lot ofpower for an 18 year old just starting out on street bikes. You'll be tempted to ride it like you do your dirt bikes, which is ***** out I'm sure. So justbe careful and get the feel for street riding beforepushing it too hard.

I know you don't want to hear this, but you should really think about how this affects your family. The reason they're against this is because they love you and don't want to see anything bad happen, and they know that a collision like the one that totalled your car can easily kill you if you're on a bike.

If you're going to do this anyway, at least try to put their minds at ease. Tell them that the VAST MAJORITY of serious motorcycle accidents involve riders who fit one or more of these categories:
1) Don't have a motorcycle license
2) Have had no safety training
3) Are new riders
4) Are drunk or high

If you show them that you're responsible enough to take the MSF course and get properly licensed, then hopefully they won't worry about you as much when you're out on the bike.

You better figure out whether any one will insure you as well. They get really funny with 18 yr olds on this kinda ride. Especially since you had a recent accident, your fault or not. This is way more bike than you think. Do the stuff previously listed and be LEGAL and smart. Do that and your OK.

plusone on the insurance thing man. If mom and dad are gonna pick it up I'd say go for it. I got my first street bike when I was 19 and paid the insurance and everything, I don't think it was too bad.

just stay smart and stay safe bro.

I kind of wonder whose fault is was in the accident. The only reason I bring that up is because, people are gunning for you on the street. A lapse of judgement can get you dead with so many a-holes on the road. Plus, it sounds funny if you just caused an accident in your car, and now you are going to get on a bike and ride into the sunset. If you were not the cause of the accident, excuse me for sounding suspicious of you. These are similar things that your folks are thinking, though. They are just worried for you. When I first got my bike, I bought it without telling my parents for about two weeks, and Iam thirty-three!

The f4i is probably the most tame 600 out there. It was my first bike and I loved it, but the fact that it handled so well and was so easy to ride made mefeel that I was a better riderthan I actually was. Takeit easy and ride within your limits.

+1 on that.

Take the MSF before you get too far into things. Not only will you learn a lot, but you'll see if this is something you do actually want to do.
