Default A little upset.

So I've been working on this F4i that I bought wrecked. It had a very slow oil leak from the stator. I figured it was just a cracked stator cover from the wreck. I was wrong. Someone had wrecked it once before apparently and a nice sized chunk of aluminum from the block where the stator cover bolts on was torn off. They decided to fix it by shoving RTV sealant in there. Not a big deal, I was just gonna have the hole welded shut and a new hole drilled and tapped for the bolt. But I also saw that the end of the crankshaft is bent from that crash. So I'm in a pickle. I'm mad.

Unfortunately that is the risk of buying a wrecked bike. Things that are hidden come into view once you start rebuilding. Good luck with the rebuild bro.

Bent crankshaft? that motor is done....

It'll be much easier to replace the motor completely. I was suprised to find how many F4i motors are available for 300-500$ on ebay or craigslist with low miles.

Save yourself the agony of welding, tapping or trying to repair broken or leaky parts.

Part out the busted old motor online. You should get a nice penny for the top half alone...

Keep us updated.

My local motorcycle salvage yard has F4i engines for $600 w/ warranty.

Sicks right - either part the bike out and use the Money for your next bike, or grab an ebay engine and bolt it in.

+1 Another guy on here wrecked his bike and bent the crankshaft and cracked the block. He picked up a low-mileage engine for a lot cheaper than it would have been to repair/replace just the parts that were damaged.

Are the frame/forks/subframe straight on the bike? It would suck to find out there is even more **** ****ed beyond repair on it.

the frame, forks, and subframe are all perfect. It just took a big hit a while back right at the stator. I checked the two bike salvage yards here and they don't have anything. So I guess I'll be going the ebay way. Nothing on the craigslist down here either.

Use crazedlist and search all over the country. It helped me find clip ons in north carolina.
